Premium Intraocular Lenses

for your cataract surgery

With the right private health insurance, you can access a wide range of premium lens options: including multifocal, extended depth of focus (EDOF), and toric lenses for astigmatism at no additional out-of-pocket cost.

For self-funded patients, we offer transparent, cost effective pricing for premium lenses. Our team will provide a clear itemised quote so you can make an informed decision with no surprises.

1. Multifocal Lenses

Maximum Spectacle Independence

Multifocal IOLs are designed to provide functional vision at three key distances: distance, intermediate, and near. Current technology multifocal lenses generate dysphotopsias – the glare and halo side effects noticed particularly at night. This is because there is no technology currently available that can emulate a young human eye’s focusing ability. Patients considering this lens design must be willing to accept some glare and halo, noticed most commonly around lights at night, to enjoy a broader range of vision. This option suits people who want to strive for the broadest range of vision, and are willing to accept minimised dysphotopsias. As everybody is different spectacles may still be required, including for reading.

Best for patients who:

  • Want to strive for the broadest range of spectacle independent vision
  • Lead active lifestyles and use digital devices extensively
  • Have realistic expectations about visual trade-offs (some haloes or glare may occur, particularly at night)

2. Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) Lenses

Smooth, Continuous Vision

EDOF IOLs create a single elongated focal point to provide improved intermediate vision, while minimising the visual disturbances seen with multifocal lenses. This makes them ideal for patients seeking a broader range of vision focus whilst maintaining similar levels of contrast and dysphotopsias to monofocal IOLs.

Best for patients who:

  • Want greater visual function with fewer night vision disturbances

  • Are willing to wear glasses for near vision tasks if needed

  • Lead active lifestyles and drive frequently at night

3. Toric Monofocal Lenses

Correcting Astigmatism

Toric monofocal lenses are designed to correct astigmatism (when the cornea is irregularly shaped), significantly reducing the chance of requiring glasses for distance vision compared to standard monofocal lenses.

Best for patients who:

  • Want to reduce dependence on glasses for distance vision
  • May want to continue to wear graduated or multifocal spectacles for near tasks
  • Want the IOL with the lowest possible dysphotopsias
